(I tried to add a "help" tag but I'm not sure how to tag posts in this forum sorry!)
I have a tree farm setup with a simple hovering hourglass sending a signal to 2 elven spreaders like so:
I'm trying to build it on a server that uses fast leaf decay, so I'd like to adjust the input to prevent the spreaders with bore lenses from firing before the munchdew is completely spent. to that end, I changed the hovering hourglass input to a mana detector>signal lengthener>falling edge detector which uses a sticky piston moving an observer. the sticky piston closes when the mana bursts end, sending a single redstone pulse from the observer. however, I've discovered that unlike the hovering hourglass pulse, the observer pulse is not enough to trigger the redstone torches and I really have no idea why. I'm not great with redstone, so I was hoping someone better at this can help me understand why these are so different when they're both just a single redstone pulse.
for reference, here is the simplified test setup that I did so I could make sure it's a problem with the observer and not my wiring. hovering hourglass on the right turns off the two torches, while observer triggered by hovering hourglass setting off sticky piston on the left does not.
