How to obtain crab shells?

I can't figure out how to obtain them. I've spawned hundreds of crabs in a hole and killed them with looting 3, yet no shells drop. I looked at the data and saw the condition "crab_brewing" as a flag, and can't figure out what that means. I've even tried boiling one alive in a cauldron, still no dice; no shell! How do I get a shell? This information should probably be added to the website.

by default crabs drop the shells when killed by player, the crab_brewing tag is for the potion of resilience, if you disable Enable Brewing in the crab module of the config, crabs will not drop shells and the potion won't be available either.
If you can see the shell in the creative inventory/jei/emi then the shell is enabled, otherwise it's not

LeoBeliik Yes crabs are enabled, and the shell is in the inventory. How rare is it supposed to be? The chance in the file shows 25% but I've spawned hundreds of crabs in a hole and none of them dropped a single shell even after Looting 3

Edit: Of course the FIRST crab I kill to show it doesn't drop, then it drops the shell. How freaking comical.
