I've been developing an addon for Botania (using the 1.20 beta). It is mainly meant to be used with BetterCombat, but can be installed without it. Tbqh, I'm mostly making this for myself, but I wanted it to be good enough quality to release. Here's my current description draft:

(This was supposed to be a video, showcasing how it rotates through colors like the Gaia Spirit and Ingot do, but apparently, you can't embed videos on the forums. Aw.)

I'm not much of an artist, but I like how this turned out.

Please let me know what you think about the concept/content/art! I plan on releasing it when Botania 1.20 releases.

Hey, this looks really cool and I love how menacing the Gaia Greatsword looks! Buffing pixies is always appreciated.

Just re. the lore, gaia spirits and terrasteel don't interact favourably. From the lexicon:

One would think that combining two of the most powerful botanical resources known (i.e. Terrasteel and Gaia Spirits) would create a material that would be truly unstoppable. Unfortunately, the reality is that said material is very much stoppable. In fact, the two sets of energies seem to cancel almost perfectly when combined into an ingot, yielding an utterly useless alloy.

I understand it's a personal project but ngl I do think tying post-Gaia weapons to more Norse mythology would go hard. A spear or bow based on Skaði, a sword that applies heavy bleed based on Dáinsleif, Skofnung that applies the Crossed Souls effect while held, and of course Mjolnir which could stun/nterrupt a mob's current action.

Not too familiar with how Better Combat plays in general. Do your weapons make both Gaia fights easier, harder or just require a different playstyle? All I know is Better Combat adds weapon combos, which she can just teleport away from.

adarsh This is a good point, but in my head the Gaia Greatsword is less "Terrasteel and Gaia Spirits combined" and more "Gaia Spreaders affixed to the multiple Terrasteel Swords". Indeed, the recipe does not use Gaia Spirit Ingots:

Something I forgot to mention in the OP (due to the lack of video) is the fact that the Gaia Greatsword emits 7 mana beams when swung, spread out to a fan shape (hence the 3 Terra Blades + 4 Gaia Spreaders).

I was planning on having a post-gaia ranged weapon in BotaniaBows. (My reasoning for this being a different addon is in the first image in OP). I will keep in mind Skaði. Thank you for the suggestion!

Imo, the Gaia fights with BetterCombat are more or less the same, with the only real difference being it is potentially easier to dispatch the mob spawning phase of the fight due to BetterCombat weapons having area-of-affect. I have not done extensive testing on this though.

I tweaked the Gaia Greatsword art a bit to reflect its crafting recipe more, and to respect Botania lore. I also added a secret weapon today.
Here's a video of all the weapon sprites and their current swing times and BetterCombat-provided animations. (The secret weapon is not included here)

There has been a change of plans regarding the other mod, BotaniaBows. I didn't mention it in the OP, but the author of Archers is working on a separate API for to make adding ranged weapons much easier. This code was originally a part of Archers but is going to be its own mod that doesn't add content (unlike Archers). Again, the reason BotaniaBows was going to be separate was because it was going to require Archers (which adds content one may not want). But, if I can add the ranged weapons to BotaniaCombat without necessitating the installation of Archers with RangedWeaponsAPI, I will do that.

Additionally, the numbers in the OP and the source are not finalized. Considering the dev of Archers (and the rest of the RPG series mods) is also the dev of BetterCombat, I am considering the stats of those versions of the BetterCombat weapon attributes to be the "canon" ones which I should base the BotaniaCombat stats around, instead of June's Basic Weapons mod. (No offense to that mod or author, it's well-done and you should check it out).

At this time I am not sure when I will release BotaniaCombat anymore since Botania 1.20.1 just officially came out (I thought it would be a tad longer) and I kinda want to wait on RangedWeaponAPI.

I have decided to release an Alpha as the content currently in is fully functional. Please test it, and see if you can find the secret weapon :p

I've completed the shields (will require fabricshieldlib) and started working on some crossbows (will require ranged_weapon_api). Here's the art (idk how visible this will be but I want to try it)

Also, was no one going to tell me I could just put the resource pack in the mod itself instead of making users download it separately? :clueless:

I really wanted to have a release out this week, but I've run into a block with Fabric's DynamicItemRendering. The two-handed weapons in this mod (like the greatsword) have a 16x texture for GUIs, and a 32x texture for it being in your hand.

I originally had mixins on Minecraft's item render method that displayed a different method, but it wouldn't work for my bow since that model needs predicates for each state of pull. Evidently a mixin is not required for separate GUI/held models; Fabric API has its own way of doing this. So I tried converting to that, but again I have been having issues. Seemingly no matter what I try, both models are invisible.

This made me wonder, since the mods that I'm using BotaniaCombat alongside have 32x textures anyway, is it really worth it to have different renderers in the first place? Would you personally be bothered by the two-handed weapons having 32x32 textures in your inventory? Let me know in the poll.

It's been a while, but I never stopped working on this mod, and I'm going to revive this thread to highlight the 3.0 beta release:

Added a bunch of new config options that alter some damage numbers relating to Botania items, allowing you to nerf or buff them. (If you want to change melee weapon attributes, use a mod like Custom Item Attributes)
If RangedWeaponAPI is installed, the Damage Lens on a Mana Blaster now gets boosted by ranged_weapon:damage attribute. I recommend lowering the base damage of the damage lens to balance this.
If BetterCombat is installed, Terrasteel weapons and the Starcaller are now properly networked instead of piggybacking off of Botania's LeftClickPacket. This means the beam will fire during the swing instead of the start of it. It also fixes some issues with durability
Altered Spear, Dagger, and Gaia Greatsword default stats to be more in line with RPG Series weapons
The Snowshoes from the Artifacts mod now fulfills the condition for Gaia Gift 3, assuming you also have Cardinal Components API installed
Nerf Gaia Gift 1 melee effect slightly
Spears and Gaia Greatsword have had their model adjusted
Mod no longer includes tinyconfig jar (oops)

This is marked as a BETA because of possible issues with all of these changes. Please test and create an issue on the GitHub if you find a bug!
