Does host having Optifine matter?

Basically title. I'm playing on a custom modpack with some of my friends, and the host is using Optifine, is that what's causing my mana spreader to not fire into the pool, even though I'm not using Optifine?

Optifine does have patches that influence game logic iirc, though I can't say if it's causing this specific issue. I'd recommend the CaffeineMC optimization mods instead which try to preserve vanilla behavior as much as possible.

If the data is calculated on the host, then of course the host's optifine will affect the player. The compatibility of optifine is devastating (so much so that some players call it "optimal"), and it is often not recommended to use optifine in high versions. If you just want to use some shaders, you may try oculus. If you are looking for better performance, you can try mods such as FerriteCore.

Yes, optifine messes with the capability system i believe, which is what spreaders use to find a target to shoot into. Optifine makes the spreader unable to find the mana pool, and therefore it won't shoot.
